The opening concert of our 2020-2021 season, “Against All Odds,” will be premiered on Saturday, November 21st at 7:30 p.m. via our YouTube channel and includes two parts:
PART ONE: NEW performances by small ensembles associated with the orchestra and commentary by our Music Director Walter Morales. Participating groups include Shadyside Brass, the ESO String Quintet, Aeolian Winds, Unity Brass, Desperate Measures wind quintet, ESO Cello Ensemble, and Barclay String Quartet. These groups will feature music by Bach, Piazzolla, Morley Calvert, Paul Critser, Paquito D’Rivera, The Beatles, and Queen.
PART TWO: Revisit Monique Mead’s stellar performance of Beethoven’s Violin Concerto, Op. 61, Movement 1. We will also air Ms. Mead’s documentary “Beethoven in the Face of Adversity” which recounts her 50 performances of the work honoring the spirit within all of us and celebrating Beethoven’s 250th birthday. Ms. Mead and ESO president Natalie Kasievich will then take a look back at the year and discuss how the world and her perspective on this piece has changed.
The concert will be presented on YouTube and links to both Parts will be available on our Facebook page and our website starting at 7:30 p.m. on November 21st and thereafter. The concert is free but a suggested $10 donation is gratefully accepted and can be made at www.edgewoodsymphony.org/support.
