Dvorak’s Seventh

This program pairs Beethoven’s magnificent Violin Concerto with Dvorak’s dramatic Seventh Symphony. Dvorak’s greatest symphony marks a milestone in the composer’s life while Beethoven’s Violin Concerto, to be performed by the exquisite Monique Mead, is considered the summit of a violinist’s concerto repertoire. We open this concert with the evocative In the Steppes in Central Asia by Borodin.

Majestic, striding, and tender, Beethoven’s Fifth Piano Concerto is not only a crowning achievement among Beethoven’s compositions, but among all the piano concertos written before or since. Schumann’s Third Symphony “Rhenish” exudes beauty and grandeur: a true love letter to the Rhine River, where Schumann lived most of his life.
